Toronto Gluten Free: What are the Best Places for Gluten Free Eaters in Toronto?

I love visiting Toronto (even as a Bruins fan) since their gluten-free food is incredible! I discover more and more places each time I visit. Check out @glutenfree_juliag on Instagram to see pictures of the food that I ate at each location. Without further ado, let’s delve into the best gluten free restaurants and eateries throughout the city of Toronto!

Riz

      • Dedicated gluten-free (and dairy-free!) Asian food better than I can even remember pre-celiac! Terry, the owner, is incredible and I would go out of my way to pay Riz a visit! If you’re looking for the best gluten free restaurants, then start here.
      • Location(s): North York
      • Julia’s Faves: Peeking Duck with pancakes

Almond Butterfly Bistro

      • Another dedicated gluten-free find, but this time focused on breakfast and lunch. They also have a separate shop that serves as just a bakery! This bistro is a must for the Toronto gluten free experience.
      • Location(s): Toronto
      • Julia’s Faves: French toast, Beer battered onion rings

Volos

      • Contemporary Greek cuisine with an airy Mediterranean feel. It is not too often that I can find great Greek food with lots of gluten-free options of my favorites growing up (like avgolemono soup)! Volos makes it easier than ever to eat gluten free.
      • Location(s): Toronto
      • Julia’s Faves: Chocolate Mousse

Chotto Matte

      • Nothing is better than reading a menu where anything labeled gluten-free means celiac safe, even the crispy rice! From the owners of Nobu, with a location in Miami, I'll be dreaming about this meal until the end of time.
      • Location(s): Scattered around North America, Europe, and the Middle East
      • Julia’s Faves: El Jardin Roll, Spicy Tuna Crispy Sushi

Summer's Ice Cream

      • Nothing beats homemade ice cream on a hot day - and Summer's will have a line out the door to prove it! They have gluten-free cones in a separate area and happily made sure my flavor was safe.
      • Location(s): Yorkville
      • Julia’s Faves: Toronto Pothole in a cone

Bread Essentials

      • Essentials is the key word here - this cafe/market is dedicated gluten-free and has everything you can imagine! If you eat gluten free, then you don’t want to overlook this place. From hot food to dry goods and more, about half my suitcase home ended up being from Bread Essentials!
      • Location(s): Etobicoke
      • Julia’s Faves: Spanikopita, Poppyseed Bagel with cream cheese, beignets

El Pocho

      • Dedicated gluten-free in a friendly neighborhood! Everything was delicious and nothing can beat fresh churros. This is among the best gluten free restaurants for Mexican cuisine!
      • Location(s): Toronto
      • Julia’s Faves: Tuna tostada, churros
